Wutong Mountain

梧桐山

The highest point in Shenzhen, and steep enough to count as a climb.

It is nine hundred metres, a steady three hours up on the paved route, with a view over the whole city and out to Hong Kong on a clear day.

Take twice the water you think you need, and start early. The last of the light goes quickly on the way down, and the descent is harder on the knees than the climb is on the lungs.
