Where to eat like home

There is more West African and halal food in this city than a new arrival expects, and almost none of it is where a search engine will send you. It sits where the community sits: around the trade areas of Bao'an, in parts of Futian, and near the eastern campuses.

Look for 清真 on a sign for halal. For jollof, egusi, suya and anything cooked the way your mother would recognise, ask in the NIS group rather than online, because the good places change hands, move and reopen, and the group knows before the internet does.
