Shenzhen Bay Park
深圳湾公园
Thirteen kilometres of waterfront with Hong Kong on the far side of the water.
A long, flat, beautifully kept promenade along the bay, with Hong Kong across the channel close enough to make out buildings. There are egrets in the mangroves, kites in the sky, and half of Shenzhen out walking after dinner.
It is the single easiest place to take someone who has just arrived and is feeling far from home. Go at sunset when the towers behind you start switching on.
