Luohu
罗湖区
The old city, next to the border and cheaper than Futian, full of shops that have been there thirty years.
Luohu is where Shenzhen started, and it still feels like a city that grew rather than one that was drawn up. The buildings are older, the streets are denser, and the markets are markets rather than malls.
The Luohu crossing to Hong Kong is here, along with the main railway station. Dongmen is the shopping district everyone ends up in eventually.
Rent is meaningfully lower than Futian for a commute that is twelve minutes longer, which a lot of people decide is the best trade available anywhere in the city.
Who lives here
Traders, long-term residents, people who want a centre postcode at a discount.
